December 6, 2014

Dear KSBO Bowlers,

The thirty-second annual doubles tournament was held at Hi-Joy Bowl on December 6th and was dedicated to one of our past members and sponsors, LARRY BROWN. We had forty-two doubles show up which is the largest turnout since 2010. This tournament was also our Toys for Tots event.

After the five games of qualifying, Mike Green and Jimmy Dillingham were the leaders. Mike had games of 204-198-223-193-256 for 1074 while Jimmie had games of 219-185-243-147-220 for 1014. This gave them a total of 2088. Low to qualify and cash was 1910.

After the first two games of the semi-finals we cut to the top eight. Mike and Jimmie remained in the lead by shooting games of 197-226 and 167-206. They earned 75 bonus points which gave them a total of 2959. Low to make the top eight was 2774.

The top eight bowled one more game to see who would advance to the TV finals. Stu McMaster/Tom Jamrog shot 213 and 279 earning all 40 points to move into the top spot with a total of 3454 (85). Behind them were Mike Green/Jimmie Dillingham 3389 (75), Larry Dodd/Ryan Jamrog 3339 (90), Bruce VanWert/Mike Hansen 3326 (80), and in fifth, Melissa Ellis/Lonnie Sharkey 3313 (80).

For the TV finals the bowlers alternate every other frame to complete one game. The first match Bruce and Mike defeated Melissa and Lonnie 196-183. A stubborn 10 pin let Bruce and Mike continue on as they beat Larry and Ryan 183-181. The next match Mike G. and Jimmie defeated Bruce and Mike H. 204-183. The championship match belonged to Mike and Jimmie and they beat Stu and Tom 209-166 to earn the doubles title. This is Jimmies first title and Mike’s third. All three of Mike’s titles have come in the doubles. This ties him with D.J. Hoem and Kip Nelson for having the most doubles titles all time. Congratulations to both of you.

The high game out of the money went to Dan Steinmetzer and Stephanie Sharkey. Dan shot 258 and Stephanie shot 202 for a 460. They each receive a check for $75.

After the qualifying we took a little time to present a check for $600 to Sam Martin and M Sgt Selby from the Marine Corp League Toys for Tots. We have been involved with this organization since 1986 and have donated $14,118.00 to this worthy cause. Recently we have been told that we are the largest contributors to their organization for our size. Thank you to everyone who made this possible and also to the merchants who donated the items that were raffled off during this tournament.

The KSBO would also like to thank Chuck Ludwig. Chuck and Larry were great friends and bowling buddies. Larry was a great supporter of the KSBO sponsoring the KSBO for a total of fourteen years. Much more than that Larry was a great competitor. He won his only under title by defeating his friend Chuck. He was our Pizza Man and no matter what, whenever you saw him he always had a smile on his face. Thank you Chuck for letting us see that smile one more time.

This tournament concludes the first half of our season. We will be taking a break for a couple of months. We hope everyone enjoys their holidays and New Year because it will be February before you see us again.

Our next tournament will be February 7th and will be back at Hi-Joy Bowl. It will be the Westbay Auto Open and the Tom Myers Sr. Memorial 205 and under. This is the tournament that is open to all USBC members. You will be hearing from me again as it gets closer to remind you so don’t worry that you might forget because I am sending this out so early.

One thing that you might start thinking about is making sure that you get enough tournaments in to be eligible for the finals in April. As a reminder:

· Open bowlers need to have paid into six tournaments (4 must be singles)

· Under bowlers need to have paid into five tournaments (4 must be singles)

· The other rule is that you must have bowled in at least one tournament (any format) in each house

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
