Dear KSBO Bowlers,

The forty-second season of the Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Organization is off and running. We had forty-five bowlers show up at All Star Lanes on September 20th for the TONY’S RESTAURANT OPEN and the GEORGE SHAFER MEMORIAL 205 and under sponsored by ALL STAR LANES CASINO. This is the tournament we have to honor George Shafer who was a big part of All Star Lanes and the KSBO for many years and unfortunately has been gone for twelve years now.

Prior to the tournament we gave out our awards for the All Star Team and Bowlers of the Year awards. This year’s team is comprised of Lonnie Sharkey, Mike VanWinkle, Dean Richards, Jeremy Sears and Tim Clemens. Lonnie was also the Bowler of the Year in the open division. Brandon VanWinkle was the Bowlers of the Year in the under division.

After the qualifying round Jeremy Ellis was the leader in the open division. He had games of 279-235-289 (803) 255-182 for 1240. Low to qualify and cash was 1051.

Nick Bachteler moved into the lead after the three games of semi-finals. He had games of 299-245-244 winning all of them. Behind him was Tom Jamrog 1943 (60), Jeremy Sears 1939 (60), Leo Funari 1893 (90), and in fifth, Jeremy Ellis 1841 (0).

In the first match of the TV finals Jeremy defeated Leo 237-215. He then beat Jeremy S. 214-202 and Tom 227-174. The final match was a close one going down to the tenth frame. Jeremy was forced to get the first strike to earn his second title. He struck out defeating Nick 259-239. Congratulations Jeremy.

You saw above that Jeremy shot 803 in qualifying his first three games. Well, he was not the only one that shot 800. Tom Jamrog had games of 283-256-268 for 807 his first three games of qualifying. Congratulations to both of you.

In the under division, Danny O’Toole was the leader after the qualifying round. He had games of 209-188-244-231-201 for 1073. Low to qualify and cash was 959.

Danny remained in the lead after the three games of semi-finals. He shot games of 209-200-198 winning all of them. This gave him a total of 1770. Behind him was Rick Thorene 1690 (45), Chuck Ludwig 1667 (30), and in fourth Brandon VanWinkle 1620 (45).

In the first match of the TV finals Brandon defeated Chuck 207-188. Brandon then beat Rick 208-173. The final match belonged to Danny though as he earned his first under title of the season defeating Brandon 234-190. Congratulations Danny.

The high game out of the money in the open division was a 246 by Steve Soto. He receives a free entry into his next singles tournament. Jessica Sutton and Steve Layton each shot a 215 which was the high game out of the money. They each receive $32 towards their next singles tournament entry.

The KSBO would like to thank Mike Malane from Tony’s Restaurant for sponsoring for the seventeenth time and Laurie Myers from All Star Casino for once again honoring George for the twelfth year. We look forward to having them back again next season.

The next KSBO is at Laurel Lanes on October 4th. It will be the CERTIFIED HEARING OPEN and the BILL’S AUTO DETAILING 205 and under. Once again there will be more added money than normal this year in all of the tournaments at Laurel.

The cost for open members is $75 and for under members is $60. Check in will start at 9:30 with qualifying at 11 AM. Remember that your dues of $25 are payable the first tournament that you bowl.

The schedule cards are out. Make sure and pick one up. Also the entry forms for the Quad in November and Doubles in December are available.
