Results LAKESIDE INDUSTRIES Doubles - December 5, 2015

The thirty-third annual doubles tournament was held at Hi-Joy Bowl on December 5th and was sponsored this year by LAKESIDE INDUSTRIES. We had forty-one doubles (eighty-two bowlers) show up which is the largest turnout this season. This tournament was also our Toys for Tots event.

After the five games of qualifying, Robert Ellis and Nick Bachteler were the leaders. Robert had games of 226-210-193-223-202 for 1054 while Nick had games of 239-277-223-235-278 for 1252. This gave them a total of 2306. Low to qualify and cash was 2102.

After the first two games of the semi-finals we cut to the top eight. Doc Patterson and Spencer Ludwig moved into the lead by three pins over Robert and Nick with a total of 3105. Low to make the top eight was 3018.

The top eight bowled one more game to see who would advance to the TV finals. Doc Patterson and Spencer Ludwig shot 267 and 225 earning 30 more bonus points to keep them in the top spot. Behind them was Robert Ellis/Nick Bachteler 3551 (10), Kirk Gruber/Frank Showalter 3543 (90), David Mabry/Ryan Council 3523 (80), and in fifth, Wes Fitz/Warren Cox 3497 (90).

For the TV finals the bowlers alternate every other frame to complete one game. The first match David and Ryan defeated Wes and Warren 239-172. They then beat Kirk and Frank 202-197. The next match Robert and Nick beat David and Ryan 234-165. The championship match came down to needing a spare for Nick to cinch his third KSBO title and get Robert his first. And spare he did. They defeated Doc and Spencer 225-212. Congratulations Robert and Nick for a great tournament.

The high game out of the money went to the team of Vahl Burkett and Daren Bayne. Vahl shot a 224 and Daren shot 259 for a 483. They each received a check for $75.

The highlight of the qualifying round was our first 300 that was bowled in two seasons. In game three on lanes 31-32 Kirk Gruber bowled his first ever 300. It was very exciting to watch. We were able to video the last ball and it has been posted on our facebook site. It was also very profitable for him as he won the progressive pot which was at $153. Congratulations Kirk.

After the qualifying round we took some time to present a check for $800 (largest to date) to Jason Selby from the Marine Corp League Toys for Tots. We have been involved with this organization since 1985 and as of this tournament have donated a total of $14,918.00. Thank you to everyone who made this possible and also to the merchants who donated the items that were raffled off during this tournament. I would also like to thank the bowlers for their patience as this is our longest tournament of the season.

The KSBO would like thank George Peabody from Lakeside Industries for sponsoring this tournament. This is the first time he has sponsored the doubles but he has been a long time support of the KSBO sponsoring tournaments at Laurel for many years. We really appreciate his support. We look forward to having him back again next season however we will see him again before this one is over. Our next trip to Laurel will be sponsored by Lakeside.

This tournament concludes the first half of our season. We will be taking a break for a couple of months. We hope everyone enjoys their holidays and has a safe New Year because it will be February before you see us again.

Our next tournament will be February 6th and will be the Tournament of Non-Champions/Champs at All Star Lanes. This is always an exciting tournament so make sure not to miss it. You will be hearing from me again as it gets closer to remind you so you can’t get rid of me that easy.

One thing that you might start thinking about is making sure that you get enough tournaments in to be eligible for the finals in April. As a reminder:

· Open bowlers need to have paid into six tournaments (4 must be singles)

· Under bowlers need to have paid into five tournaments (4 must be singles)

· The other rule is that you must have bowled in at least one tournament (any format) in each house

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
